David Wright Injury

Mets’ veteran David Wright has been diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement and is questionable to start on opening day this year.  Wright has not yet thrown in front of any media at the Mets Spring Training.  Many medical experts have described this injury as being very painful, and very difficult to deal with.  There have been many rumors that this injury may force Wright to retire, and Mets fans can only wonder what the future has in store for their beloved third basemen.

David Wright has been with the Mets for his entire career, and he has been a fan favorite his entire time in the league.  He’s been in the majors since 2004 and since that time he’s won two silver slugger awards and has been a 7-time all-star.  Wright has always been very consistent with his glove, as well as at the plate, and is close to a .300 average for his entire career.  However, Wright has been plagued with many different injuries the past few seasons that have significantly decreased his playing time overall.  Wright has had a herniated disk in his neck as well as spinal stenosis that have caused him a ton of pain, and only allowed him to play in 37 of 162 games last season.

It’s always terrible to see a great player, and great person such as David Wright suffer from so many injuries.  As a Yankees fan, there have not been many players on the Mets that I really like, but I can honestly say that I have always respected David Wright.  He is a gentleman on and off the baseball field, and he plays the game the right way.  David Wright has such a love for the game of baseball that there is no way he will retire unless he is told by a doctor to do so.  You hate to see that.  The man loves nothing more than showing up to the game and putting on a show for his fans.  I really hope for David Wright’s sake that this shoulder impingement does not force him into an early retirement, and he is able to one day go out on his own terms.
