occurred on Monday, February 27:

10 – 7. Freddie Freeman was hot at the
plate going 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and shortstop Dansby Swanson had 3 hits of his
own with 1 RBI.
The Miami Marlins were defeated by the Minnesota Twins 9 - 6. Ervin Santana recorded the win throwing two
scoreless innings and only allowing 2 hits.
The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles 4 – 1 to
improve their Spring Training record to 3 – 1.
Things are looking up for the Bronx Bombers this year as they now have a
very powerful lineup starring second year players Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge,
and an improved pitching staff as well.
The St. Louis Cardinals took part in a Split-Squad day on
Monday as they split up into two full teams and played two games; one against
the Boston Red Sox, and one against the Washington Nationals. They defeated the Red Sox 7 – 2. Jose Martinez went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs
and 4 RBI’s in the game. The Cardinals
fell to the Nationals by a score of 4 – 2.
Brandon Snyder went 1 for 1 with a sacrifice fly and 2 RBI’s in the
victory.
The Texas Rangers also partook in a Split-Squad day on
Monday and played games against the Milwaukee Brewers and the Cleveland
Indians. The Rangers lost both games
against each of these opponents. They
were defeated 5 – 0 by the Brewers who were led by Lewis Brinson’s 3 for 3
performance at the plate. The Indians
defeated the Rangers by a score of 3 – 2.
The Indians are out for vengeance this year after blowing a 3 game to 1
lead against the Chicago Cubs in last year’s World Series.
The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by the
same score of 7 – 2. This improved their
overall Spring Training record to 3 – 1.
Corey Dickerson went 1 – 2 in the game with a home run and 2 RBI’s.
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 2 – 1 on
Monday. The Blue Jays have yet to show
some promise this preseason as they have gone 0 – 4 and have not shown the life
that they should coming off of a year in which they made it to the playoffs and
were ultimately embarrassed.
The New York Mets were defeated by the Houston Astros by a
score of 5 – 2. The Astros all-star
second basemen Jose Altuve had a good day at the plate going 1 for 2 and
driving in 1 RBI.
The Kansas City Royals absolutely destroyed the Seattle
Mariners on Monday by a score of 14 – 3.
The game was called in the 7th inning as there is a mercy
rule during Spring Training. The Royals
were led by the bat of their all-star catcher Salvador Perez as her went 2 for
3 driving in 4 runs during the game. The
Royals will definitely be a huge threat in the American League this year, just
as they have been in the recent past.
There was a battle of Chicago on Monday, as the White Sox
faced off against the Cubs. The game
ended up finishing with a 4 – 4 tie due to the fact that extra-innings are not
played at all during Spring Training.
The Colorado Rockies beat the Los Angeles Dodgers by a
whopping score of 7 – 1. Jordan Patterson
of the Rockies led them to the victory going 2 for 3 at the plate with a home
run and 2 RBI’s.
The San Francisco Giants, who have been hot so far this
Spring Training, were defeated by the Oakland Athletics by a score of 5 – 4. Oakland was led by Ryon Healy who went 1 for
3 at the plate driving in 2 runs.
The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Cincinnati Reds 6 – 1 on
Monday. The game broke open in the 8th
inning when Reymond Fuentes made the most of his only at-bat of the day,
scorching a 3-run home run.
Finally, the Los Angeles Angels defeated the San Diego Padres
by a score of 5 – 3. The Angels were led
by outfielder Kole Calhoun who went 1 for 3 with an RBI on the day. San Diego’s pitching staff seemed to be
afraid of Angels’ all-star Mike Trout as they walked him both times that he
appeared to the plate.
