The NFL season has officially come to a close and it is now
time for sports fans to re-direct their attention from touchdowns and yards per
game to home runs and ERA’s. With the
2017 baseball season on the horizon, fans can only hope for the best from their
respective teams this year.
Most MLB
organizations have been extremely busy throughout the offseason and are anxious
to get to work at spring training. The
New York Mets and the Cleveland Indians are getting a head start on the year as
they are staring up spring training programs earlier than all other teams in
the league. Both teams plan to have
pitchers and catchers report for the first day of bullpen sessions on Sunday,
February 12. The remaining organizations
all plan to bring in their pitchers and catchers on either February 13 or 14,
and welcome their position players 3-4 days after that.
Spring training is often overlooked
by many people. Some fans refuse to
watch the games on TV due to the fact that their favorite players may only get
a few at bats or only throw a few innings on the mound. What people fail to recognize is that some of
the most competitive professional baseball that will be played the entire year
takes place during spring training. The
games are played by some of baseball’s most promising young superstars. Spring training is the time for the young
guys to try and make a name for themselves and prove they have what it takes to
make it in the big leagues. Whether it
is a new player fresh off the 2016 draft, or a 3-year minor league player,
everyone has the same goal in mind. MAKE THE TEAM.
These next few months will be
extremely telling and give some great insight into the 2017 MLB season. The Chicago Cubs will be working hard to try
and repeat their championship season in 2016, and the Cleveland Indians will be
working even harder to try and redeem themselves for blowing a 3 game to 1 lead
in the World Series this past year. It
is an exciting time for baseball.
